Hambleton Orthodontics is more than an orthodontic practice. It is a Pasadena family legacy built on clinical excellence, trust, and generations of relationships with local families. Since 1955, the Hambleton family has helped shape smiles throughout Pasadena and the San Gabriel Valley. What began with the late Dr. Richard Steadman Hambleton has grown into a third-generation orthodontic practice, carried forward by Dr. Robert Hambleton, Dr. Lindsey Hambleton MacFarlane, and now Dr. Charles Hambleton.
For nearly seven decades, our mission has remained the same: to provide exceptional orthodontic care in a kind, professional, and respectful environment while forming lasting relationships with our patients and their families. Many of the families we care for today are the children and grandchildren of patients who first walked through our doors decades ago. That continuity is what makes Hambleton Orthodontics special. Our practice combines the values of a long-standing Pasadena institution with the technology, training, and modern treatment options expected from today’s orthodontic care.

Our Story
The Hambleton orthodontic tradition began with Dr. Richard Steadman Hambleton. A USC-trained dentist, Navy veteran, educator, and respected Pasadena orthodontist, Dr. Richard Hambleton established a standard of care that continues to guide the practice today. His son, Dr. Robert Hambleton, followed in his footsteps and expanded the family’s orthodontic legacy through decades of patient care, teaching, leadership, and service to the specialty. Dr. Robert brought the same commitment to clinical excellence and community relationships that defined his father’s career.

In 2011, Dr. Lindsey Hambleton MacFarlane joined the practice, becoming the third generation of Hambleton orthodontists to serve Pasadena families. Raised in Pasadena and involved in the office since her teenage years, Dr. MacFarlane brought a deep respect for the family tradition along with advanced training in modern, digitally based orthodontic care. Now, with the addition of Dr. Charles Hambleton, the family legacy continues. A Pasadena native and the newest Hambleton doctor to join the practice, Dr. Charles represents the next chapter of a family story rooted in service, education, community, and beautiful smiles.

Dr. Robert H. Hambleton, DDS Second Generation | Board-Certified Orthodontist | USC Educator
Dr. Robert Hambleton continued the family tradition started by his father and has become one of Pasadena’s most respected orthodontists. After earning his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1976, Dr. Hambleton graduated from the University of Southern California School of Dentistry in 1981 and completed his orthodontic training at USC’s Graduate Orthodontic Department in 1986.
For decades, Dr. Robert Hambleton has cared for generations of Pasadena families with a focus on excellent treatment outcomes, careful diagnosis, and a warm, relationship-centered approach to orthodontics.
Dr. Hambleton is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. He has also served as president of the Southern California component of the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists, continuing the family’s involvement in one of orthodontics’ most respected clinical organizations.
In addition to private practice, Dr. Hambleton has been deeply involved in orthodontic education. He has served as an associate clinical professor in graduate orthodontics at USC and has helped support the next generation of orthodontists through his work with the USC orthodontic community. He has also served as president of the Dougherty Tanaka Foundation, which supports USC Orthodontics.
In 2010, Dr. Hambleton was named USC Graduate Orthodontic Alumnus of the Year, a meaningful recognition of his contributions to the specialty, the university, and the profession.

Meet Dr. Hambleton MacFarlane, DDS, MS Third Generation | Board-Certified Orthodontist | Pasadena Native
Dr. Lindsey Hambleton MacFarlane is Dr. Robert Hambleton’s eldest daughter and the third generation of Hambleton orthodontists to serve Pasadena. She joined the practice in 2011 and is proud to carry forward the family tradition of creating beautiful smiles while forming relationships that last for generations.
Dr. MacFarlane was born and raised in Pasadena and graduated from Westridge School. After earning her undergraduate degree from Boston College, she received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Southern California in 2008. She then continued at USC, earning a Master of Science in Craniofacial Biology and a certificate in orthodontics in 2011.
Having grown up as both the daughter and granddaughter of orthodontists, Dr. MacFarlane has been part of the practice since she was a teenager. She brings a unique blend of history and innovation to the office: a deep respect for the traditions that built Hambleton Orthodontics, paired with a commitment to modern, technology-driven orthodontic care.
Dr. MacFarlane is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and a member of the Southern California component of the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists. She is also involved in organized dentistry and orthodontics through several local, state, and national professional organizations.
Outside the office, Dr. MacFarlane and her husband, Mark, are the proud parents of four boys. She is grateful to raise her family in Pasadena and remain involved in the community she has always called home.

Dr. Charles Hambleton, New Addition | Third Generation | Pasadena Native
Dr. Charles Hambleton is the newest addition to Hambleton Orthodontics and represents the next chapter in the family’s Pasadena orthodontic legacy.
A Pasadena native, Dr. Charles grew up with a front-row seat to the impact orthodontics can have on families, confidence, and community. As the son, grandson, and brother of orthodontists, he brings a lifelong connection to the profession and a deep appreciation for the trust patients place in their orthodontic team.
Dr. Charles completed his dental education at the University of Southern California, continuing the Hambleton family’s long connection to USC dentistry and orthodontics. He continued his orthodontic training through the Georgia School of Orthodontics.
As he joins the practice, Dr. Charles brings a fresh perspective, strong family roots, and a commitment to carrying forward the same values that have guided Hambleton Orthodontics since 1955: thoughtful treatment, excellent results, honest communication, and genuine care for every patient.
For Dr. Charles, joining Hambleton Orthodontics is more than a professional step. It is a homecoming and a continuation of a family promise to serve Pasadena with integrity, skill, and heart.
